We teach children, so we take their privacy seriously. Here is what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

01Who we are

Core Tutor is the learning platform of Core Tutoring Center Inc. (“Core Tutor”, “we”, “us”), a tutoring center based in New York. This policy explains what personal information we collect through our website and platform, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

It covers students, parents and guardians, teachers and visitors. If you have questions, contact us at support@coretutor.com.

02Information we collect

Account information. Name, email address, phone number, the role of the account (student, parent, teacher or staff) and a password, which we store only in hashed form.

Student profile. Date of birth, grade, school, home address, student type (tutoring or non-tutoring), an optional profile photo, and a parent or guardian's name, phone number and email.

Learning activity. Programs a student enrolls in, exam answers and scores, written answers uploaded as files or taken with the device camera, homework submissions and teacher feedback, and scores from our learning games.

Messages and content you send us. Contact and consultation requests, newsletter sign-ups, blog posts, comments and reviews you write.

Technical information. Sign-in cookies, the browser and device type used to sign in (so we can enforce the device limit on each account), and IP addresses, which we use to prevent abuse and keep the service secure.

03How we use your information

  • To create and run accounts, enroll students in programs and review tutoring admissions.
  • To deliver lessons, live classes, study materials, exams, homework and results.
  • To let teachers grade work and to show parents their child's progress.
  • To send in-app notifications about classes, homework, results and account activity.
  • To answer messages and, if you subscribed, to send our newsletter.
  • To protect the platform, prevent misuse and meet legal obligations.

04Children's privacy

Many of our students are under 13. For these students, a parent or guardian creates the account or gives consent before the student uses the platform, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We collect only what we need to teach and support the student.

A parent or guardian can review the information we hold about their child, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it and stop collecting it, by contacting us at support@coretutor.com.

05When we share information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only in these cases:

  • Our team. Teachers and staff see what they need to teach and support a student, for example the teacher assigned to a program sees that program's submissions.
  • Parents. A linked parent or guardian can see their child's programs, classes, homework and published results.
  • Service providers. We host the platform and store files with Amazon Web Services. Videos may be played from YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive, and live classes run on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, which have their own privacy policies.
  • Public content you choose to publish. Approved blog posts show the author's name and role, approved reviews show the reviewer's name, and game leaderboards show only a first name and last initial.
  • Legal reasons. When required by law, or to protect the safety of our students and staff.

06Cookies and local storage

We use secure, http-only cookies to keep you signed in. Your browser's local storage remembers small preferences, such as the filters you last used on a list.

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers.

07How we protect information

  • All traffic to the platform is encrypted in transit.
  • Passwords are stored only as secure hashes; we can never see your password.
  • Private files, like exam uploads and homework, are stored privately and opened through links that expire after a few minutes, and only after we check that you're allowed to see them.
  • Access to student information is limited by role.

08How long we keep information

We keep account and learning records while the account is active and for as long as needed to provide our services, keep academic records and meet legal obligations. When you ask us to delete an account, we delete or anonymize its personal information unless the law requires us to keep it.

09Your choices

  • Update your details and photo at any time from My Profile in your dashboard.
  • Choose which notifications you receive in your notification settings.
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any newsletter email.
  • Ask for a copy of your information, a correction or deletion by emailing support@coretutor.com.

10Payments

When online payments are available, they will be processed by a trusted payment provider. Core Tutor will not store full card numbers.

11Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services change. We'll change the “Last updated” date above, and for important changes we'll let account holders know in the platform. Please also read our Terms of Service.
